If I had my way, the rebel yell across the land would be "fight aging, play games!"  The latest research on brain function and memory shows that playing a game or games provides numerous benefits including flexing of our brain muscles, stress reduction, memory stimulation and good, old-fashioned fun.  Be sure and try the newest game, Sudoku that is a number-based crossword puzzle.  This game is sweeping the world in popularity. Click here to go to our games page.  Play games on your computer.  Read all about Sudoku strategies and other game strategies here.... If your tastes run to more classic games, try mahjongg or checkers. Brain games and fun games are sure-fire ways to have hours of fun and entertainment.

There was a movie several years ago in which a visitor came to a retirement home.  This visitor was the same age as the residents; however he had a young attitude and projected a youthful vitality.  Late one night he challenged the other residents to a moonlight game of kick the can.  They laughed and played and in a magical twist, turned back into young children.  After one of the ladies, now a child, lost her beloved wedding ring, they all longed to return to their aged selves and not live their lives over.  The visitor told them they could but they had a choice to retain their youthful mindsets.  They climbed back into bed, to become mature people again, with wishes to keep their "fresh young minds."

Currently, my favorite games are sudoku, chickenfoot and bunco.  I play sudoku in little paperback books I get at the drugstore.  I take them with me everywhere I go.  Quick and challenging, these number puzzles stimulate my mind and make me focus better.  Chicken foot is a domino game that I've played since I was a child.  Other times I play a game called bunco with a group and enjoy lots of belly laughs with this good, old fashioned dice game.  I've even taught my grandkids to play bunco and chickenfoot so we can build fun memories when we get together.

The point of all this rambling is that we all played games when we were children.  Whether it was marbles, or checkers or hopscotch, we all laughed and played our way through our childhoods.  Now that we have the time, we have a choice to play games again, laughing and playing all the way through our second childhood.  Pull up a chair and play some games!  Play with friends, play Sudoku alone, teach the grandkids or play with the folks in the neighborhood.  Speaking of the younger generation, tear them away from their handheld video games and teach them games you enjoyed like checkers, or jacks.  Whatever you do, take a mental break from your day and play games!  Enjoy!
